Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL and affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announce that Jim Burlew has been named the clubs general manager and alternate governor.

Possessing a wealth of knowledge in both sports and business, Burlew returns to Kalamazoo, where he was the K-Wings assistant general manager from 2002-2004 and named the United Hockey League’s Marketing Director of the Year during the 2003-04 season.

“While I left for an excellent opportunity outside of the hockey in 2004, I never lost my love for the sport or the Kalamazoo Wings,” said Jim Burlew. “I am excited and honored to return to an organization that has such a remarkable tradition and has meant so much to the city of Kalamazoo and the communities of southwest Michigan.”

A former hockey referee with over 1,000 games at the professional, college and international levels as well as a collegiate player at the University of Miami of Ohio and winning a junior college national championship at Canton University, Burlew has served in every facet of the game.

Familiar with the ECHL, Burlew not only refereed in the league, he was a co-founder, Vice President and director of sales and marketing for the Huntington Blizzard.

“Eight years ago, he (Burlew) played a vital role in our organizations turnaround and because of his success he received an offer that was compelling enough for him to leave,” said Paul L. Pickard president of the Wings Stadium Complex and Kalamazoo Wings. “Jim has had success wherever he has been and we are thrilled he has decided to return to the organization.”

Prior to his return to the K-Wings, Burlew was the Regional Management Consultant for RE/MAX of Michigan, the company’s corporate headquarters in the state.

With RE/MAX of Michigan, Burlew worked with and advised the Region’s over 100 franchise owners on all facets of their business including strategic planning, recruiting, retention, day-to-day operations and overall profitability.
