Kalamazoo, MI- Wings Stadium, which is also home to The Annex and The Cube and home of the 2010 USA Curling National Championships, announces the Michigan House of Representatives has declared March 6th as Go Curling Day in the state of Michigan.
The House of Representatives selection of Saturday, March 6th coincides with the start of the 2010 USA Curling National Championships, which will hosted by the Wings Stadium Complex March 6th-13th.
Last year, the city of Kalamazoo and Wings Stadium were selected to host the annual event that this year occurs the week following 2010 Winter Olympics. In total 20 of the best men’s (10) and women’s (10) teams will head to southwest Michigan to via for the opportunity to represent the United States in the World Championships later this year.
The 2010 USA Curling Nationals hopes to bring in over 20,000 spectators to Wings Stadium to witness the event. It is estimated that over one million dollars will be contributed to the southwest Michigan economy as a result.
“Go Curling Day” demonstrates Michigan’s commitment of the state for tourism, promotion, and economic growth.
The USA Curling Nationals appearance in Kalamazoo is fitting, as the first curling club in the United States was formed in Michigan and curled on Orchard Lake in 1831. Now, there are eight clubs in Michigan, including the Kalamazoo Curling Club.
