Game Preview

Nearly 5,000 school age kids from western Ohio will serve as an alarm clock, as the Kalamazoo Wings and Toledo Walleye finish their home-and-home series with a School Celebration Day at the Lucas County Arena.

With 12 points, Kalamazoo in first place in the North Division and are three points ahead of Toledo. Today will also commence a three-game road swing for K-Wings. Kalamazoo suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, a 7-5 decision to Toledo.

The Walleye’s win on Orange Ice was their first road victory of the season. In that game, Toledo’s power-play exploded going 5 for 8. The Walleye, who entered the game 5th in the ECHL at 23.7%, now lead the league with a percentage of 30.4 with a man-advantage.

The K-Wings, who will play the Toledo Walleye this morning, are no strangers to a.m. starts. All-time, the K-Wings are 6-5-0-1 in morning games and 2-0-0-0 on the road.

On the Road Again
After a brief one game home stand last Saturday, Kalamazoo will begin a three-game road swing today against Toledo. On the season, the K-Wings are 4-0-0-0 in road contest.

Daav “Ettila” The Hun
Rookie forward Trent Daavettila has been on a scoring tear. Daavettila, who is on a K-Wings’ season-high three-game goal streak, is tied with fellow K-Wing Anton Kharin amongst rookie scorers with nine points. 

Lead by Example
Captain Sam Ftorek has been leading the K-Wings by example. Ftorek starts the week on a three-game point streak, earning six points (1 goal, 5 assists) during the stretch.
