WINGS STADIUM TO HOST CURLING OFFICIALS TRAINING

Level I and II Training to Occur October 24th and 25th

Kalamazoo, MI- Wings Stadium, which is also home to The Annex and The Cube and home of the 2010 USA Curling National Championships, announces the facility continues its preparation for the next year’s nationals by hosting Level I and II Training for officials Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th.   

 

The Level I course will cover areas for non-decision makers. Course will cover the background of officiating at curling events, explanation of levels of officials-criteria for certifications and moving up, ethics of officiating, rules.

  

Positions of non-decision makers include End-Ice Observer (stationed at the end of each sheet and will post the score on the scoreboards and will also record the shots on a magnet board), Timers (1 per sheet they will operate the electronic clocks as well as the one-minute timers for the break between ends).

 

On Sunday, the training will focus on Level II, which are Decision Makers, which includes

Hog-line Umpires, Timing Supervisors and On-Ice Supervisors. The course will discuss roles and functions before, during and following a competition.

 

Each course takes about 6-7 hours of instruction. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. with instruction beginning at 9 a.m.

Stadium Management Company owns both the Wings Stadium Complex and the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team. The Wings Stadium Complex is comprised of three buildings; Wings Stadium seats more than 5,100 fans for K-Wings home games and more than 8,000 people for concerts and other stage events. The Annex seats 1,367 for ice events and can seat up to 2,850 for non-ice events such as car, boat, and trade shows. The Cube is the newest of the three facilities and plays host to both ice and non-ice events. All three buildings are available for rental and feature numerous catering and meeting opportunities
