MYSTERY ALASKA

Kalamazoo Wings to Battle Alaska Aces in Two Preseason Contests

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL, announce they will battle the 2009 Kelly Cup runners-up, the Alaska Aces, in two preseason games.

The contests will occur Wednesday, October 7th and Thursday, October 8th at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska with a face-off for each game scheduled for 11:15 p.m. (EST).

The games against the Aces will be the K-Wings’ only preseason contests. Kalamazoo will commence the 2009-10 regular season on the road Thursday, October 15th against the Reading Royals.

“With so many new faces on the roster, this trip is a perfect opportunity for the team to get to know one another and get ready for the regular season,” said Wade Welsh, vice president/general manager. “This is an exciting time for the organization. Not only will these games be our first in the ECHL, they will be against one of the league’s premiere organizations.”

If history were to repeat itself, the two preseason clashes could be a preview of the Kelly Cup Finals. Last season, the South Carolina Stingrays played the Aces in two preseason contests at the Sullivan Arena. The Stingrays would go on to capture the 2009 Kelly Cup Championship in a thrilling seven-game series.

Established in 1995, the Aces have made 10 playoff appearances in their team’s history, including six straight. Even more impressive, Alaska has earned a trip to at least the conference semi-finals in each of the past four years and captured the Kelly Cup during the 2005-06 season, the same year the K-Wings hoisted their last championship, the Colonial Cup.

After three straight away from Wings Stadium, Kalamazoo will open up the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, October 24th versus Reading with a 7:30 p.m. face-off.

Season tickets for the upcoming 2009-2010 season of K-Wings hockey are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office during their regular business hours of 9 a.m.-4p.m. or by calling (269) 345-5101. Fans can save 15% on their season tickets by paying for their seats in full by October 1st.
