Former K-Wing Joel Rechlicz Becomes First Player in the Reestablished IHL to Sign in the NHL

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the International Hockey League, announce forward Joel Rechlicz (WRECK-lidge) has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders.

Rechlicz, who played in 25 games with the K-Wings this season, spent the remainder of the year on call-up with the American Hockey League’s Albany River Rats.

This season between the K-Wings and River Rats, Rechlicz amassed 206 minutes in penalties in 50 games and recorded two points (1 goal, 1 assists), with his lone point as a    K-Wing occurring on a goal versus the Muskegon Fury on December 1st at L.C. Walker Arena.

The native of Brookfield, Wisconsin will commence his Islander career this July in the team’s annual summer mini camp.

By signing with the Islanders, Rechlicz becomes the first player from the reestablished IHL to earn his way to the top hockey league in the world.

Season tickets for the 2008-09 season are currently available at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office during regular business hours.
