Game Preview

In a game that has major playoff implications, the Kalamazoo Wings will face-off against the Flint Generals. This evening is the final regular season encounter between the teams. On the season, the K-Wings are 8-6-0-0 versus the Generals.

With just three games remaining in the regular season, Kalamazoo trails Muskegon by a single point for fourth place in the IHL and are five points behind third place Flint. After releasing Brian Curran of his coaching duties yesterday, the K-Wings will have General Manager Wade Welsh serving as interim Head Coach.

Well it’s not a lock; Flint’s playoff picture seems to be sunny. With four games remaining in the regular season, the Generals need to win just one game to clinch a playoff berth. Besides leading Kalamazoo by five points, Flint is four points ahead of Muskegon for third.

Bench Boss

General Manager Wade Welsh will serve as the K-Wings Interim Head Coach. Welsh replaces Brian Curran, who was released for his coaching duties yesterday.

Parenteau Makes Debut

Kalamazoo has added amateur forward Guillaume Parenteau to the roster. Parenteau has spent the past four seasons in the QJAHL with Longueil, including this year, where he recorded 122 points (44 goals, 78 assists) and amassed 144 minutes in penalties.

Karlander Named MVP

Yesterday, the IHL named K-Wings forward Kory Karlander as their 2007-2008 Most Valuable Player. Karlander, who leads the league in scoring with 89 points, joins Brett Jarrett (1981-82) and Rob Brown (1993-94) as the only members of the franchise to earn the IHL MVP award.

Captain Consistent

Forward Nick Bootland enters the week on a seven-game point. Besides the seven-game streak, Bootland has earned points in 10 of his last 11 games.
