Game Preview

For the final time this year, the Kalamazoo Wings will battle the Bloomington PrairieThunder. The K-Wings won in their last visit to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum 3-1 last weekend. On the season, Kalamazoo is 9-4-0-1 against Bloomington and are 4-3-0-0 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

 

Including today, the K-Wings have four games remaining in the regular season. Earning a point in an overtime loss last night to Port Huron, Kalamazoo has now pulled to within two points of the Muskegon Fury for fourth place and four points of the Flint Generals for third.

 

Eliminated from playoff contention on Friday, Bloomington has quickly adapted to their new role as spoiler. The Thunder rolled for four goals in a span of 35 seconds in the opening period en route to a 9-4 victory last night against Flint.

On the road, when the K-Wings lead after the first they usually are victorious. The K-Wings are 8-0-0-1 when leading their opposition after 20 minutes of play.

 

The Most Exciting Play in Hockey

Three of the five penalty shots Kalamazoo has faced this season have come against Bloomington. The

K-Wings have denied only two penalty shots this season, both from attempts by Leo Thomas.

Defenseman Jamie Vanderveeken shares the IHL league-lead for goals scored by a defenseman with 14. Vanderveeken also leads all IHL defensemen in power-play goals with eight.
