Game Preview

One team’s streak will come to an end this evening, as the Kalamazoo Wings hit the road to battle the Fort Wayne Komets. Kalamazoo has won three-straight games, while Fort Wayne has rattled off eight straight victories and are looking to break their franchise record for consecutive home wins, which now stands at 18.

Currently in fourth place, the K-Wings are not trying to make history; they are looking to repeat it. Kalamazoo’s 6-4 victory on December 21st marks the last time Fort Wayne has suffered a loss at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum.

The 18-game home winning streak by the Komets was originally set 44 years ago during the 1963-64 season and is four games shy of tying the league mark of 22 held by the Muskegon Mohawks (1965-66). With their last home win coming last Sunday, Fort Wayne became the first IHL team to clinch a playoff birth.

Big Willie Style

Forward Tyler Willis racked up five assists during the K-Wings 6-3 victory Wednesday afternoon versus Flint. The five-assist effort, which was one assist shy of tying the franchise mark of six held by Rob Brown (03/05/94), was an IHL season-high and it tied the K-Wings season-high for points in a game.

Good Things Come in Threes

Kalamazoo enters the game on a three-game winning streak. Besides the three-game streak, the K-Wings have won five of their last six games.

On Fire

Two members of the K-Wings enter the game riding impressive point streaks. Kory Karlander has earned points in eight straight games, while Nick Bootland is on a six-game streak.

Scoring the Big Goals

Last Sunday, defenseman Jamie Vanderveeken scored 48 seconds into overtime to give the K-Wings a 1-0 victory versus the Bloomington PriarieThunder. The game-winner from Vanderveeken was his second this season, which ties him for first among all IHL defensemen.
