Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the International Hockey League, announce forward Lucas Drake and defenseman Jamie Vanderveeken have been selected as the league’s National City Forward and Aquafina Rookie of the Week for the period ending March 2nd.
Coming off the injured reserve last Wednesday, Drake made his presence felt notching nine points (3 goals, 6 assists) in four games.
The native of Holt, Michigan’s break out performance was a four-point performance (1 goal, 3 assists) on February 29th at Wings Stadium versus the Flint Generals.
Earning his first weekly honor this season, Drake commences this week on a K-Wings current-high six-game point streak. Drake also joins line mate Glenn Detulleo and Kory Karlander as the only other K-Wing recipients of the award this season.
Taking home his second Aquafina Rookie of Week Award this season is Jamie Vanderveeken.
Just like the sponsor of the award, Vanderveeken gave the K-Wings a refreshing and quenching week at the blue line.
Vanderveeken posted five points (3 goals, 2 assists) and registered a plus/minus of plus-3 in four games last week.
The native of Sarnia, Ontario’s top outing of the week was a three-point outburst (2 goals, 1 assist) during the K-Wings 8-5 victory last Friday at Flint.
A two-time recipient of the league top rookie honor, Vanderveeken joins former K-Wing Mike Bickley as the only other member of the franchise to receive the award this season.
After five days off, Kalamazoo returns home to Wings Stadium this Saturday, March 8th for a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Muskegon Fury on ZOOperstars! Night.
