Kalamazoo, MI – For the second straight night, the Kalamazoo Wings used timely scoring to overcome a two-goal hole to defeat the Flint Generals 5-3 at Wings Stadium.
For the third straight game, the Flint Generals jumped out with the game’s first goal. Justin DePretis (5th) knocked in a rebound 7:57 into the contest.
Kalamazoo tied the contest less than three minutes later with a power-play marker from Glenn Detulleo (15th). Mike Kinnie (16th) regained the lead for Flint moments later on a breakaway goal.
With less than four minutes remaining in the period, Mike Beausoleil (26th) gave the Generals their largest advantage of the night at 3-1.
Storming back with two goals to conclude the period, the K-Wings would end the period tied 3-3. Nick Bootland (34th) struck on the power-play off a deflection from a Jamie Vanderveeken blast, and fittingly with 19 seconds remaining in the frame, Lucas Drake extended his point streak to five games, netting his 10th of the season.
The K-Wings earned their first lead of the night early in the second with a right circle slap shot from Justin Cross (14th).
Putting the game on ice, Mark Versteeg-Lytywn (12th) capitalized off a misplayed puck by Bill Ruggiero, as Versteeg-Lytwyn skated around the goaltender and placed the puck into the open net for a shorthanded tally midway in the period to give the K-Wings the eventual 5-3 victory.
