Kalamazoo, MI – With Wings Stadium filled with a crowd of 4,696, mainly filled with students from 11 districts around southwest Michigan, it was the Flint Generals that passed the exam defeating the Kalamazoo Wings 5-3 on Education Day.

Scoring 57 seconds into the game, Flint registered on the scoreboard with a wrist shot by Justin DePretis (2nd).

Kalamazoo answered nine minutes later when Jamie Vanderveeken (8th) tipped in a Kory Karlander pass from inside the left circle. The point was Karlander’s 600th of his career.

Extending their lead on a similar goal as their first, Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn (11th) lit the lamp from the left circle on a pass from Glenn Detulleo. It only took one minute for Flint to retaliate with a slap shot from the blue line by Jaroslav Cesky (7th).

The Generals regained the lead midway in the second period with a wrap around tally from Mike Kinnie (15th).

With less than four minutes remaining in regulation, Justin Cross (13th) scored the equalizer on a one-timer from the slot.

Unfortunately, the celebration from Kalamazoo would be short lived, as Cesky (8th) put Flint ahead for good 25 seconds later with his second of the night. Minutes later, Jordan Fox (19th) added on an empty-netter to give the Generals a two-goal victory.
