Game Preview

Two teams with rich traditions will battle tonight as the Kalamazoo Wings tangle with the Fort Wayne Komets at Memorial Coliseum. On the season, the K-Wings have struggled against the Komets with a record 2-7-0-1.

Building off the momentum of last night’s 5-4 victory over Flint, Kalamazoo is set to hit the road for two games. The standings in the IHL are getting tighter, as the K-Wings are three points out of fourth place and six points behind Port Huron for second.

Winners of six in a row, Fort Wayne has ascended into first place in the league. With 70 points, the Komets hold a 16 point advantage on the IHL top perch. Tonight will conclude a four-game home stand for Fort Wayne, which is 21-3-2-0 at home.

Protecting the Net

Earlier this afternoon the K-Wings signed goaltender Ron Vogel. An eight-year pro that began the season with the Port Huron Icehawks, Vogel will be in uniform tonight for the K-Wings.   

Dishing it Out

Forward Tyler Willis dished out four assists during the K-Wings 5-4 victory last night. The four helpers by Willis is a season-high for assists in a game.

Lighting the Lamp

With his two goals last night, Nick Bootland has now tickled the twine 30 times this season. With 30 goals, Bootland leads the entire league in lamp lighters.

 

Give Up the Shots 

Last night the K-Wings gave up a season-high 48 shots on net. On the season, Kalamazoo is 4-0-0-0 when allowing their opponents 45 shots or more.
