Game Rewind

Thursday, February 7th @ Muskegon (Kalamazoo 3-Port Huron 0)

Port Huron, MI-  Goaltender Jeff Reynaert lived up to his nickname of “Rock”, as he denied Port Huron of all 35 shots they sent his way in Kalamazoo’s 3-0 victory over Port Huron at McMorran Place Arena.

Fireworks surrounded the opening period for Kalamazoo. Lucas Drake (7th) connected on a one-timer from Justin Cross 1:59 into the game. Glenn Detulleo also received an assist on the tally, extending his scoring streak to a K-Wings current-high nine games.

With just over two minutes remaining in the first, it was the battle of the captains, as Nick Bootland dropped the gloves with Port Huron’s Mark DeSantis. Bootland overpowered DeSantis, which kept momentum on the side of the K-Wings.

After serving his five minutes for fighting, Bootland continued to beat the Icehawks up by striking two times in the second stanza.

Finishing off a two-on-one, Bootland notched his team-leading 27th goal of the season at the 11:16 mark. Three minutes later, Bootland (28th) tickled the twine again, this time on the power-play, which was his league-leading 13th of the year.

No scoring in the third period, Reynaert stopped 10 shots in the third to preserve the shutout for Kalamazoo. The shutout was the second this season by the K-Wings.

Friday, February 8th Vs Muskegon (Muskegon 5-Kalamazoo 2)

Kalamazoo, MI- Falling down by three goals, the Kalamazoo Wings dug themselves into a hole they couldn’t climb out of in a 5-2 loss to the Muskegon Fury.

Executing on the power-play 2:35 into the first period, Muskegon registered on the scoreboard with a tally from Robin Bouchard (19th).

Building on their lead, the Fury started the second with a pair of goals 58 seconds apart from Dan Riedel (15th) and Billy Collins (19th) to give Muskegon a 3-0 advantage. The tally from Collins established a personal single-season high for the forward.

Later in the period, Justin Cross (8th) connected on a 5-on-3 power-play to cut the Fury lead to two goals.

With just over three minutes remaining, Glenn Detulleo found Lucas Drake (8th) in front of the net to bring the K-Wings back to a single-goal. The assist from Detulleo extended his point streak to a K-Wings current-high ten games.

Muskegon put the contest out of reach midway in the final period, as David Van Drunen (1st) tipped in a power-play goal past Jeremy Symington extending the Fury lead to 4-2.

Mike Watt (15th) wrapped up the scoring with an empty-netter. Collins assisted on the final Muskegon goal, which capped off a four-point (1-goal, 3 assist) night for the native of Enderby, British Columbia.

Saturday February 8th  Vs Muskegon (Muskegon 5-Kalamazoo 4)

Kalamazoo, MI- A see-saw contest went the way of the Muskegon Fury as they used two third period goals to defeat the Kalamazoo Wings 5-4 Saturday night at Wings Stadium.

Physical play by the K-Wings dictated the tone of the first period. For the second straight night, Justin Cross struck for Kalamazoo’s first goal of the evening, a blast from the slot. Earning an assist on the tally was Glenn Detulleo, who by doing so upped his K-Wings’ current-high point streak to eleven games.

Muskegon answered back midway in the period with a five-on-three power-play goal from Adam Bartholomay (8th).

Kalamazoo regained the lead late in the stanza on the power-play tally from Chris Mills (6th). Scrambling in front of the net, Mills found the deflected puck and knocked it past Clayton Pool.

Swinging the pendulum in their favor in the second period, Muskegon used goals from Bartholomay (9th) and Billy Collins (20th) to take a 3-2 advantage.

Camping out along the right post, Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn (10th) recorded the equalizer on a power-play rebound off the stick of Nick Bootland. Kalamazoo regained the lead late in the second, on a tip in from Brett Needham (1st).

Receiving goals from Collins (21st) and Jay Hardwick (3rd) in the final period the Fury were able to escape Wings Stadium with a 5-4 victory and move past the Port Huron Icehawks into third place in the IHL standings.

The goal from Collins gave the forward three points (2 goals, 1 assist) on the night and seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) on the weekend against the K-Wings.
