Off to an
impressive start to his professional career, McGinnis
spent his rookie campaign splitting time between the Albany
River Rats of the American Hockey League and the Florida
Everblades of the ECHL.
Competing
in the National Hockey League training camp of the Carolina
Hurricanes, McGinnis played the first two months of the
season with the Everblades. McGinnis made his AHL debut
on December 12th with a +2 performance against the Manchester
Monarchs.
In
total, McGinnis played in 27 games last season with Albany
racking up five points, all on assists. Ryan also spent
43 games with Florida, where he notched 12 points (2 goals,
10 assists) and was a +13.
A
former 6th round (184th overall) selection in the 2005
NHL Entry Draft for the Los Angeles Kings, McGinnis spent
five seasons playing junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey
League. Two years ago, McGinnis completed his fifth and
final season of junior hockey, playing his first season
for the Oshawa Generals, where he recorded 48 points (6
goals, 42 assists) and helped the Generals advance to
the Conference Finals in the OHL playoffs.
The
native of Flint, Michigan spent the four previous years
of his junior career with the Plymouth Whalers. McGinnis
helped the Whalers capture the 2007 OHL Championship and
were runners-up in the Memorial Cup Finals.
